What Flooring Installation Involves

Most flooring problems start underneath the flooring. This is what we check and prepare before a single board goes down.

  • Subfloor Assessment

Checking for flatness, moisture and movement before anything is laid, since most flooring failures begin underneath it.

  • Removal and Disposal

Taking up the old carpet, tile or laminate, and getting it out of the house and off site rather than left in the yard.

  • Material and Layout

Which material suits each room, and which direction the boards or tile should run for the layout to read cleanly across doorways.

  • Levelling and Underlayment

Prepping the substrate and underlayment so the new floor has a stable base, with the right moisture and acoustic barrier beneath it.

  • Installation and Transitions

Fitting the floor, then the thresholds, stair nosings and the joins where one surface meets another.

  • Trim and Finishing

Baseboards, shoe moulding and door trimming refitted or replaced, since new flooring changes the height at every wall.

Flooring Questions

Yes — taking up the existing carpet, tile or laminate and disposing of it is part of the job, not something you're left to arrange before we arrive.

It gets corrected before the new floor goes down. Levelling and prep come first, because a bad subfloor will telegraph through even a good product.

Often, yes. New flooring changes the height at every wall, so baseboards usually come off and go back — and get replaced if they don't survive the removal.

For most installations, yes, with care. Anything glued, levelled or finished on site has a curing window, and we'll tell you what that is before we start.

Yes. Stairs, nosings, thresholds and the transitions where flooring meets tile or another room are fitted as part of the installation, not left as an extra.

Luxury vinyl plank, hardwood, laminate, and small or large format tile, finished with baseboards and crown where the room needs them. If you are weighing two options for a room, we will talk through how each one wears and what it asks of you in maintenance.
